May: Families Behind The Badge Children’s Foundation
This month we have an amazing Non-Profit whose mission is to help provide financial relief to families of fallen and critically injured first responders, to change the dynamic between police officers and the communities they serve, and to provide mental health and wellbeing resources to first responders and their families in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey communities.
FBBCF raises money by hosting fundraisers, silent auctions, raffles and a community involved bike ride called the Ben to the Shore Bike Tour.
The Ben to the Shore Bike Tour is more than just a scenic ride from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. Starting with an inspiring trek across the Ben Franklin Bridge and ending at the Showboat Hotel, it's a journey fueled by purpose. Participants form teams, set fundraising goals, and pedal with the knowledge that every mile and every dollar raised makes a tangible difference to the lives of service members, their families and community.
We wanted to share their story because we’ve been personally involved in the ride and seen the impact this Non-Profit makes in the community.
We have many family and friends who are first responders and want to show our support and send them a thanks for all they do!
Our involvement with Ben to the Shore dates back to when we worked with FBBCF for the 35th Annual Ben to Shore Bike Tour.
We helped people who were participating in the ride find a bike that would work best for them, provide service/check overs to ensure their bike was in tip top shape, and provided road support for cyclists during the ride.
We’ve also had the opportunity to service and build new bikes for the Philadelphia Police, so if you see one on the ride, just know those bikes put in just as much effort as the officers who ride them.
Once we learned about Ben to the Shore, we we’re hooked and wanted to be a part of the fun!
After crossing the finish line, you’ll be welcomed by volunteers, cheering family members, food and more!
There is also a Wall of Heroes that shows all of the amazing people who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their community. We ride to honor the fallen and support the survivors.

A Story of Hope: The Impact on Families Like Andy Chan's
The support provided by Families Behind the Badge has a profound impact on the lives of first responders and their families during incredibly challenging times. Take, for instance, the story of Andy Chan. Following a serious motorcycle accident, Andy and his family faced a long and difficult road to recovery. Families Behind the Badge stepped in to offer vital assistance, providing financial support and organizing fundraisers to help alleviate the burdens associated with his ongoing medical needs and rehabilitation. Each year, FBBCF hosts a fundraiser called the The Andy Chan Holiday Block Party. It takes place every December in Old City Philadelphia.
Their support has also inspired Andy’s wife, Tang Chan who continues to work with FBBCF by helping them raise funds for families of fallen and critically injured first responders.
It’s a truly inspiring story. We’ve been following the story of Andy Chan since the accident. We lived near the area of the accident at the time and remember the incident like it was yesterday. We have been sharing his story for many years and always pray for improvement in his rehabilitation.
Lastly we wanted to send a thanks to Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation for allowing me to feature them this month. We are truly inspired by their mission and the work that they do. We are honored to be a part of such an amazing community and give back to those who serve and protect our community.
